On Thurs Oct 10, 2019 Canadian Pacific Blues Society presented the future of the blues with rising Blues Prodigy & Alligator Records artist, Christone “KINGFISH” Ingram “LIVE” before a Sold Out crowd of 250 people at the Fox Cabaret, in Vancouver. It truly was our Honour to do that for Mr. Ingram’s debut National Fish Grease Juke Joint tour with guests The Cerny Brothers.
What an incredible night and such a super opportunity to catch this amazing Clarksdale Mississippi Bluesman early on in his career. Can you imagine having had an opportunity to see the late BB King or Freddie King when they were just young men? To us this would rank up there with something like that.
Our thanks to all who came out to Support “Live” Blues, you make shows like this possible.
Canadian Pacific Blues Society & One Stop Rock Shop co-hosted a rare Summer Blues concert with the “King of Slydeco” Sonny Landreth & his band on August 24, 2019 at the RIO Theatre. Guest that night was Mississippi born Robert Connely Farr, who was a absolute pleasant surprise to the fabulous crowd who came out.
Sonny Landreth (guitar), Dave Ranson (bass) & Brian Brignac (drums) were extremely pleased to be back playing for fans in the Vancouver area. They delivered a solid, amazing performance full of Louisiana Blues & masterful Slide guitar before longtime fans and some new virgin fans experiencing their first-ever show by the Sonny Landreth Band.
Our first Show of 2019 featured show-stopping, incendiary Blues guitarist Coco Montoya, and what a show it was. The evening featured Canadian Bluesman Brandon Isaak & his trio, then the amazing Coco Montoya & his band. Those in attendance couldn’t stop raving about the stellar performances by both acts on May 13, 2019 at the RIO Theatre in Vancouver.
Those familiar with Coco’s history, know he got his start playing drums in Texax Blues Legend Albert Collins band, where he learned guitar from the Master of the Telecaster. Coco then went on to play with one of the Legendary Father’s of British Blues, John Mayall. He played guitar in the Bluesbreakers. Coco has had his own band since the early nineties and was very happy to be back playing in Vancouver.
Canadian Pacific Blues Society’s fifth & final show of 2018 before a raucous crowd of rabid Blues Fans was A Celebration of Rory Gallagher with Band of Friends featuring Davy Knowles (guitar) with Rory Gallagher’s Rhythm Section of Gerry McAvoy (bass), and Ted McKenna (drums) at the Fox Cabaret in Vancouver.
The evening honoured the music & legacy of the great Irish Blues Rock icon Rory Gallagher, born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal in Northern Ireland. He formed “The Tatse” later renamed simply “Taste”, a Blues Rock and R&B power trio. After that band broke up Gallagher toured under his own name, hiring former Deep Joy bass player Gerry McAvoy to play on Gallagher’s self-titled debut album. This was the beginning of a 20 year musical relationship between the two. Ted McKenna joined the band in 1978. Formerly with the U.K. Blues Rock band “Back Door Slam”, Davy Knowles is a Manx blues guitarist & singer who counts Eric Clapton, Cream, Dire Straits, Peter Green, Rory Gallagher, & Robert Johnson, among others as his musical influences. He did Rory Gallagher proud with his performance here in Vancouver.
